Apricot Glazed Chicken Wings

Sweet and Delicious Wings on the Grill

Apricot Glazed Chicken Wings Apricot Glazed Chicken Wings have a wonderful sweet flavor that our family really loves. The blend of fresh ginger, apricot preserves, lime and garlic come together to make these wings burst with flavor.

Our kids especially like to eat these since they are sweet and tangy. We leave the Hot Wings to my husband and his crazy friends. They like to have contests to see who can handle the most hot sauce on their chicken wings. They probably fried away their taste buds a long time ago.

Grilling Chicken Wings

The trick with using any sweet sauce when grilling is to cook the wings until golden brown first and then start brushing on the sauce during the last few minutes of cooking. After brushing sauce on the first side cook them for just a minute and then repeat on the other side. By brushing and turning each minute you prevent the sauce from burning and transforming your wonderful wings into a burning pile of charcoal. (I speak from experience) I like to add sauce and and turn the wings at least 4 times so that they get nice and gooey.

Try Pre-Cooking Your Wings First

Chicken wings have a lot of fat on them, which tends to cause a lot of flare-ups on the grill. So we have learned that pre-cooking the wings in the oven for half an hour or more releases a large portion of the fat and speeds up cooking time on the grill. Another advantage to pre-cooking is that you aren't wasting as much charcoal or gas since it takes less time to cook them.

cutting chicken wing

Grab both ends of the wing and bend it open until it's straight. This will help you locate the area to cut. Cut the wing in half by placing your knife into the socket that connects the leg and wing. This will take a bit of practice. You will know you have the right spot when it cuts through easily. If it is too hard to cut then you haven't found the right spot. Just keep moving the knife around until you get it.
