Chinese Chicken Wings Covered in a Sweet Glaze



Asian Chicken WingsIf your looking for a sweeter change from Buffalo wings then try Asian Chicken Wings. They have a wonderful Asian flavor that is sure to please everyones' taste buds.

They make a great snack for game day.
We usually offer these as an alternative to spicy wings for those who can't take the heat.

You will need to marinate the wings overnight, so make sure you prepare them the day before.

This recipe describes how to cook them in the oven but you can also throw them on the grill. You can also cut this recipe in half for smaller portions.

 

Asian Chicken Wings Recipe


Ingredients:

  • 5 pounds chicken wings
  • 3/4 cup dry sherry
  • 1 cup plum sauce
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 cup hoisin sauce
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 8 green onions chopped
  • 4 cloves minced garlic

 

Preparation:

  1. Cut wings at the joint (see photo below).
  2. Combine all of the ingredients (except chicken) in a pot and bring to a boil.
  3. Once it starts to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Then let cool completely.
  5. Put cooled marinade into a large covered dish or large zip lock plastic bag and add wings.
  6. Put into refrigerator and allow to marinate overnight, making sure mixture coats all the wings.
  7. When ready to cook, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  8. Line baking pan with aluminum foil making sure to go up the sides.
  9. Spread wings out on a single layer on baking pan.
  10. Baste with more marinade and then discard marinade.
  11. Put wings in oven and cook for 1 to 11/2 hours, turn wings every 15 minutes

You can also cook these on the grill.

Cut the wing in half by placing your knife into the socket that connects the leg and wing. This will take a bit of practice. You will know you have the right spot when it cuts through easily. If it is too hard to cut then you haven't found the right spot. Just keep moving the knife around until you get it.
