Thai Peanut Sauce

Several Asian cultures make a version of Thai peanut sauce. This recipe isn't traditionally authentic since it doesn't include nam pla (fish sauce) or coconut milk but it tastes really great without those missing ingredients. We use it with most of our Thai recipes like Chicken Satay.

Look for hoisin sauce and chile-garlic paste in the Asian section of your supermarket. You can make this sauce a day ahead of time and keep it covered in the refrigerator. You will need to pull it out an hour before serving to let it come to room temperature.

Peanut Sauce

Ingredients:

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 small garlic clove, mashed
1 teaspoon chile-garlic paste
1 tablespoon dark sesame oil
Juice of 1 lime
1/4 cup water

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in a medium mixing bowl.
Stir until well combined
Add more water if it seems too thick
